Good evening/morning folks!!! Very solid episode of LOST last night; nothing too exciting as it was just a setup episode for the finale, but a very good one at that. I have a fair amount of stuff to talk about, so let's get to business! And as always, many thanks to LOST Cubit and Getlostpodcastmedia for their fantastic caps!
THINGS I NOTICED ABOUT LOST:
-"Watched them Die"- Richard told Locke and Co that he walked the other folks die....Uh whu?!?!?!!!!!?!? This doesn't bode well for the future of Sawyer and Co, but I'm wondering what this means. Will Jack detonate the bomb??!??! Will time collapse on itself?!??! Will the tangent universe destroy time...wait, sorry, wrong cultural reference (a few of you might get that). Did Richard watch them get incinerated or flash to another time or what?!?!?! Tell us Richard, Tell us!!
I also found it kind of interesting what Richard was doing: building a model of a boat. I couldn't help but think of the Black Rock for some reason.

- "Rats"- Widmore referred to the LOSTies as rats. I find this kinda ironic as Daniel had named his rat for experiments, Eloise, after his mother.
- "30 Years Later"- I was kind of confused with the timeline with the most recent group as I thought it was 2008, but we got 30 YEARS LATER tonight, meaning 30 YEARS from 1977. So, I guess that this confirms that the group did return to the island in 2007.
- John is "different"- I'm not sure how I feel about the new and improved Locke, but I'll get to that in a bit. Tonight John said that the island was "talking" to him and telling him what to do. Some folks suggested that Locke is really STILL dead and it's actually the island taking his form and at this point, I thought this was a possibility.
I will say that I LOVED how Locke told Ben he wasn't afraid of him anymore; that was hilarious.
Howevever, regarding John's leadership and the island "talking to him..."
- "Trouble"- Richard and Ben agreed that Locke could be trouble, but the question remains: trouble for who?

Locke seems to be taking his leader position pretty seriously, almost to the point of being a complete schmuck. He told Ben that he has no interest in hooking up with his own people, meaning he pretty much lied to Sun about how he would help her get to Jin.
Also: HE'S GOING TO KILL JACOB?!!!?!??!!?!! This shocked Ben, and rightfully so!!

Now, let's think back to Locke's relationship to the island....it's saved him on countless occasions and he seems to know that it's a special place and it needs protection. And now Locke wants to kill Jacob, the entity that is supposedly/maybe tied to the island in some way, shape, or form.
Which I THINK is what Jacob wants. If you think back to season 3, Jacob told Locke: "Help me." And if you remember, his cabin was surrounded by ash and some other stuff. Some cultures believe that ash/salt can capture/trap an entity, being, ghost, etc, etc. What if the ONLY way to help Jacob and free him from Ben and Richard is to kill him? Just my thoughts.
- "Advisor"- I'll admit that I was hoping that tonights episode would be more about Richard and his history on the island. Sadly, I guess that will have to wait. We did find out that Richard is an advisor, my guess to the leaders of the Others, and according to Ben, has been around for a very, very long time.
Hopefully we get Richard's backstory in the finale or by the end of the show next season.
- Another Scene Extension- We saw more of a scene that we saw very early in the season. In the season 5 premiere, "Because You Left" we saw how Locke spotted Richard coming out of the jungle to patch him up. Tonight, we saw how that happened as the island told John to bring Richard over there, fix him up and tell him what to do, thus creating the chain of events that brings Locke back to the island.

I'm really liking how they keep doing this, especially this season as we get what we think is a full scene of information, but later get the full spectrum of events. Very VERY cool!
- 3 Minutes- Locke told Richard that he would only have about "3 minutes" to get Past Locke stitched up and told about what to do. I couldn't help but think WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back to season 2 when the second to last episode of the season was titled "3 Minutes" and referred to the 3 minutes that the Others allowed Michael to spend with Walt.
- The first GOOD Dad on LOST?!??! - At this point, I'm ready to award Dr. Pierre Chang with the LOST Father of the Year/Years/Century award for doing something POSITIVE for his son and wife: sending them off.
In the episode, "Some Like it Hoth," we found out that Chang had told sent his wife and newborn Miles off the island. Miles took this as a sign of desertion. In "The Variable," Dan scares the crap out of Chang and tells Miles that he did that to make sure that Chang does what he needed to do. I called last week that this warning would help Chang come to the decision to send his family off the island and tonight, it was shown that this is EXACTLY what he does!!

So, Chang has the best interest of his family at heart as he sends them away for their safety and well being. In my opinion, Chang is the first solid example of parenting we've seen on LOST.
We also saw a young Charlotte leaving the island.

This probably sealed her fate as she'll yearn to come back to the island and die as a result.
Also, I just had to point out that the CGI here was SO. INCREDIBLY. BAD. Seriously...just....awful. I actually laughed. Good effort. haha

- "Something familiar"- When examining Daniel's body, Widmore stated that there was something familiar about him.

This is a nod to the fact that Charles is actually Daniel's father, so he probably sees some sort of resemblance in him.
- President Question- Tonight, Hurley got stumped as he was asked by Chang who the president was and Hurley obviously didn't have the slightest clue.

This made me chuckle as earlier in the season 5 episode, "Namaste," when Jack, Kate, and Hurley are being snuck into the Dharma initiative, Hurley expresses a concern that they'll ask him questions and he even says something along the lines of "What if they ask me who the president is?" Sawyer's reply is that they won't ask him something like that.
Well, they did! Thanks a bunch, Sawyer!
- "War is coming"- These words were spoken by Widmore to Locke when Locke jumped to 2007. My question is: is this event that's on the horizon the war that he's referring to? We see in the preview for next week that guns are blazing and we even have Radzinsky, who is becoming quite the obnoxious handful, demanding the location of the Hostiles, implying they are going to attack them or go after Ben.
Is this the "war" that Widmore was referring to? Or is he referring to the group that's on the hydra island in 2007, that are talking about what's lying in the "shadow of the statue" where Ben, Locke, and Richard are? I'm not sure which fight he's referring to. Or maybe he's referring to everything as a whole? I dunno.
Your thoughts?
- Love.......octagon?- I don't even know anymore, but we know that Kate/Juliet/Sawyer problems are on the horizon, even if they're unwarranted. I don't know why this has to keep being an issue with the show. Sawyer looks like he's pretty dedicated to Juliet (I like her better anyway), but Kate shows up and things get out of hand. I just hope this isn't a main issue for more episodes.
Regardless, this is gonna be the most awkward submarine trip away from a doomed island, ever.

- "Erase the Past"- I found Jack and Kate's conversation about erasing the past to be pretty interesting. At first, I thought Kate was just being a pain as Sawyer had pretty much told her how committed he was to Juliet and Jack also didn't show much regret for the possibility of erasing everything, including their time together. This obviously irritated her.
However, one person during the LJ discussion pointed out that if Jack succeeds then other things will happen as well, like:
- Charlie spending the rest of his life as an addict, never meeting Claire and changing his life around
- Locke would remain in the wheelchair
- Rose would remain sick with cancer
and so forth. I don't remember who pointed this out to me, but they were some GREAT points and makes me wonder what is the better option here.
- Finding Nemo- No, not the fish. Sawyer referred to the Dharma guy on the sub as Nemo. This is a reference to Captain Nemo, the Captain in such works as "20,000 leagues under the sea" and "The Mysterious Island," which is a great reference to LOST. He also tooled around the ocean in a sub, named the Nautilus.
- Smokey Express- Tonight we saw that the Others used a series of tunnels underneath the island to transport the hydrogen bomb.
I'm going to guess that the Smoke Monster uses these to get around on the island. Yes, we've seen him PLENTY of times coming up from the underground, usually destroying trees and whatnot in the process. We know that Smokey has something to him as we always hear mechanical/electrical noises when he's around, so it's not like he can glide through everything. These tunnels seem like the most logical way that Smokey can run around the island without being detected and do his thing to unsuspecting folks.

And as somebody pointed out during the LJ discussion, Locke would have seen these tunnels if Jack wouldn't have rescued him from the smoke monster in season 1 as it was trying to pull him down. Good catch on that one!!!
- Sayid to the rescue!- Props to Sayid for coming to the rescue of Jack and Kate tonight.

I wasn't exactly sure where he ran off to, but I'm happy that he saved Jack and Kate.
- "Man of Science, Man of Faith"- I'm busting out the name of the season 2 premiere because it refers to Jack (Man of Science) and Locke (Man of Faith) and how these two gents were at that point in the show.
But tonight, we saw a totally different side to Jack as he talked about "destiny" and how they had a purpose on the island now. Before Kate even mentioned it, I couldn't help but think about how much Jack has changed and become more like Locke: believing in things, in this case: destiny and/or fate. I really like how Jack has changed in this sense.....but refusing to help heal Ben was still assinine.
THE NUMBERS 4 8 15 16 23 42
- When leaving the island, Sawyer mentioned betting on the Dallas Cowboys in the 1978 Super Bowl. For a second, I thought that maybe the only things here were that 8+7=15 and 9-1=8, but there's a bit more.
The Cowboys beat the Broncos in Super bowl 12 which was played in January 15TH, 1978 (15 being a number). The Cowboys used what was referred to as the "Doomsday Defense." I couldn't help but relate "Doomsday" to the eventual catastrophic event that could/will/might happen in regards to time. This could be a stretch though.
Also, I had a chuckle when I was browsing the Cowboys 77-78 season and saw that on December 4th, 1977, Tony Dorsett had 23 rushes against the Eagles. We have december 4th, december is the 12th month (12+4=16), and Dorsett having 23 rushes.
Just some stuff i couldn't help but notice!
- Hurley lied and told Chang he was born in 1931 and that was 46. If you take the first tow numbers as one and add them to the sum of the last two, you get a number. So, if you take 19+4, you get 23. As for 46, I don't have anything for that.
And I believe that's it for now!!!
On a side note, abc.com has a HUGE amount of Dharma clothing up for order, including jumpsuits!!
I went ahead and ordered one (I just hope it fits as I like my shirts baggy):

I just LOVE the pirate style that the silverware and hat create!! I think you also get a free set of Dharma tattoos too, so feel free to check out their shop.
Also the score to SEASON 4 hits shelves next Tuesday, the 12th!

This CD includes one of my favorite LOST music tracks ever from the end scene of THE CONSTANT. Really beautiful music here, folks!!
As always , feel free to leave comments, ideas, theories, and so forth. Also, if you're adding me as a friend to your LJ, it's totally awesome, but leave a comment and let me know so I can make sure I add you back!
take care.
'till next time true believers.
