Here is something you may or may not know about me folks: I am a die hard STAR WARS geek. How geeky?  Toys/action figures, midnight toy sales, fighting with lightsabers, midnight showings, and the whole 9 yards. Not to mention that this past weekend when my lady and I dyed easter eggs, we used a STAR WARS egg dye kit she picked up. yes, we made SW eggs, including this beauty: an Egg Tie Fighter!

Have I made my point yet about my love of SW? hehehehehehe :)

And I must say this episode, purely from a SW fan perspective, was flippin' FANTASTIC. Hurley busting out the philosophy of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK to help Miles was genius. While I disagree that the Ewoks sucked (gungans weren't much better), Hurley trying to write EMPIRE was great.  I think he should edit Episodes I and II, but I digress. hehehehe  The episode was titled SOME LIKE IT HOTH, a reference to the ice cube planet of Hoth, featured in the beginning of ESB.

But yeah, I thought this was another terrific episode. Before I start, i want to remind everybody to try to stop by and read comments from time to time. We've had some pretty good ideas come up while commenting, including an idea last week that Locke is still dead, and this current form of him is the smoke monster!! So feel free to read comments!

Many thanks as always to LOST cubit and getlostpodcastmedia.com for their fantastic screencaps!!!  Same great work as always!!!

THINGS I NOTICED ABOUT LOST:

- Baby Miles- We saw a young Miles tonight, coming to grips with his ability to speak with the dead.

While we never found out how/why, I did find it interesting that Miles' mum said that Dr. Chang kicked them out.

Why would he do this? Here is my guess: he's been warned of the Purge and is sending his family away for their safety.  He doesn't want his family killed and in an effort to save them, pushes them away. Just my thoughts.

- Daddy Issues- one theme that has popped up since the show began is that most of the characters have serious problems with their fathers who left them, treated them bad, etc, etc. Here with Miles being kicked out by his dad, this theme pops up again.

- Electromagnetism - Miles picked up the body from Radzinsky; we found out that a surge of electromagnetism pulled a filling out of the guys mouth and into his brain.

This goes along with the idea that the whole island has unique properties, particularly with magnetism.  Maybe this poor bastard just hit a pocket of energy or maybe some magnetism from a possible future hatch location acted up?  I dunno.

Speaking of Dharma hatches, we saw the early stages of both the Swan and Orchid dharma stations tonight! The Swan is the main hatch that we saw in season 2 and the Orchid was used primarily in the season 4 finale the donkey wheel is beneath the outside portion of the orchid and this is how Ben and Locke left the island.

The Swan.

The Orchid.

- The guys name who died was named Alvarez.  I did a quick Wiki search and found a possible match with the name with a Luis Walter Alvarez.  Alvarez was a physicist and even won a nobel prize in Physics in 1968.  I find it interesting that one of the topics that he studied was the extinction of the dinosaurs. It's kinda funny when you think about how Dharma will soon be extinct thanks to Ben Linus.

- I did a search on Andrea and came up with not too much.  I found a possible philosopher by the name of Andrea Cesalpino, but none of the theories are LOST-esque. I also found a slew of italian painters and artists.

- Hurley talks to the Dead? - Hurley mentioned that he talks to the dead as well.  This is sorta strue.  If you think back to some of Hurley's past incidents, he has talked to Charlie, Dave, saw Jacob, and played chess with Eko.  We know that Eko and Charlie are dead, Jacob is..........no clue, and Dave doesn't exist, so Hurley is definitely conversing with those who aren't there.  The question remains though: were Eko and Charlie dead or ghosts or time traveling before their deaths?  Sayid didn't see Eko when he rescued Hurley, so maybe Hurley is just seeing things via the island?

I did really enjoy the conversation they had and Hurley stating, "you're just jealous that my power is better than yours."  Great stuff!

- "She was hot and I dug her accent"- We saw how Miles met Naomi tonight; she recruited him on behalf of Widmore to use his power to talk to the island dead and find Ben.

We saw Naomi in season 3 and 4 as she led the freigther team to the island and would later be killed by Locke who threw a knife into her back. The body she had him talk to had some interesting things to "say" as he takled about delivering an invoice for a plane, pictures of empty graves, etc, to Widmore.

If you think back to season four, we saw these papers as well as Tom showed Michael these items when he was trying to convince Michael to help sabotage the boat.

Some of the papers from season 4.

How the guy was killed.....i'm guessing he was killed by Ben or Ben's people, hence how they got the paperwork.

- The dead guys name was Felix.

Another wiki search and I found a possible hit: Felix Klein.  Klein was a german mathematician and LOST fans know that this island has more references to scientists, mathematicians and philosophers than we care to think about. Feel free to look up his theories as I didn't get them; hell, I barely passed senior algebra to graduate from high school. hahaha

- The LOST playlist grows...- Hurley and Miles were listening to the Captain and Tenille's "Love Will Keep us Together," which was released in 1975, two years before the O6 arrived.  I couldnt place the other song though.

- More game talk- The folks who abducted Miles had a man with them by the name of Bram. Bram asked Miles what "team" he was on and Bram stated that he was going to be on the winning team.  We've seen talk of teams and games on several occasions, especially between Ben and Widmore, leading many to believe that this whole race to the island is part of some "game" between Widmore and Ben.

- While in captivity, Bram asked Miles if he knew what was in the shadow of the statue?  Last week, Llana asked this to Frank before she knocked him out. I'm still trying to work this one out, but I'm thinking that maybe Llana could be working for Ben now.  If the folks who briefly abducted Miles were against Widmore (i.e.- Ben's people), Llana could be working with Ben as both threw out that statue quote.  Why wouldn't Ben and Llana say anything to each other?  Well, maybe Llana knows about the Others, but doesn't know Ben personally or maybe they didn't want to do anything until Llana got weapons? I dunno. But I think there's a connection with these two groups and they're both working for Ben.

- Also, something I didn't notice until I saw a screencap (thanks LOST cubit! I didn't even notice this!) Bram is one of the survivors of ajira 316 and seems to be working with Llana!

This only cements my idea that he's working with Ben on the island.

- "Why not 3.3 million?!?!"- Back in season four, Miles said he'd work for Ben if Ben gave him 3.2 million dollars. Now we know why as he wanted double of what Widmore was giving him, which was $1.6 million!

- Hydra Island- Chang threatened Hurley with polar bear poo patrol on Hydra island where they're conducting experiments. What experiments he's referring to, I'm not sure.  We know that Dharma were launching polar bears through time into the desert, so I guess the Hydra facilities also have time traveling capabilities.

- Been saying it since the premiere...but yeah, Chang ended up being the father of Miles.  I really liked Miles' scene at the end while he was watching his baby self (in an adorable DHARMA onesie! hahaha! hilarious!) being read to by his father.  It showed a side of Miles we haven't seen: a non-sarcastic one!

And did you notice what the book was about? Polar Bears!

- "THEY TOOK MY BOY!!!"- I couldn't help but be reminded of Michael tonight when Roger was talking about how his son was taken from him. I was almost tempted to yell "waaaaaaaaaaalt!" but decided against it. :)

- Speaking of Roger and his son, serious kudos to Kate for raising concerns and giving Roger an idea that she's involved.  I'm starting to think that Kate needs to have a babysitter for the remainder of the series.

- The ending of tonights episode threw me a loop as when I heard Ann Arbor, I thought that perhaps we were going to get more Dharma scientists, maybe even Alvar Hanso and Co, but nope, we got our old friend, Daniel Faraday!

This means that not only are they in 1977, but Daniel has spent time OFF the island in 1977, probably trying to figure out how and if he can get them back to their own times (maybe he caught a showing of STAR WARS too?)

The next new episode looks to be Faraday centric and is called "The Variable." I dunno why, but I have a feeling that the Variable in question is Desmond as he's been told by Dan that he's "special." we'll see though.

- Bunnies- I didn't make this connection until I saw the pic on LOST cubit, but the statue that was hiding the key to the apartment that young miles snuck into, was that of a small bunny!

We've seen bunnies EVERYWHERE in LOST: they were used in some Dharma videos, Ben had some, folks mention a rabbits foot and so forth. Many think their constant cameos relate to fertility and the island (thanks LOST CUBIT for pointing this one out!!!)

- Another great thing that Lost cubit pointed out (Seriously, I need a large HD TV to see this stuff) was that the dharma children seemed to be learning about egypt and egyptian history.

This just adds to the already huge pile of egyptian relations we have on the island.

- And how could I NOT mention Hurley's fantastic connections with their own predicaments to that of Luke Skywalker in EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. I don't even have anything to add except he raised some great points and you even saw Miles smiling as he know Hurley was spot on.  I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED this scene.

I also loved how Hurley was trying to get something started between Chang and Miles.  While it probably won't work, I found it really nice of Hurley to attempt to get these two to talk or hang out, even if they're just co-workers at this point.  Gotta love Hurley and his never ending supply of trying to help out others.

THE NUMBERS 4 8 15 16 23 42

- They were EVERYWHERE tonight.  The most obvious was of course was when Hurley saw them being put into the Dharma hatch cover that he would see on the hatch itself 30+ years into the future

- The microwave at the beginning of the episode said it was 3:16.  16 is a number and don't forget that the 06 returned on Ajira flight 316.

- Rent at Mile's apartment when he was a kid was $400 a month and the guy wanted double: $800 (4 & 8).

- Miles found the body in room 4.

- We also saw Miles' mom run past room 104, but i'm not buying this one too much as a "number."  But hey, there's still a 4 in there!

- Sawyer told Miles to erase the feed/stuff that was from camera 4.

- The numbers on the VCR/recording device were 3-17-51, but I can't get anything out of them.

- Horace told Miles to head to grid 334.  If you take 3 times 4, you get 12, plus 3 you get 15!

- Miles was offered 1.6 million (16) by Widmore.

- The jersey that the dead kid was wearing had the number 59 on it. 9-5=4!

- and I saw this while looking at screencaps on LOST cubit. Is it me or does the check # on the check that she's writing say it's check #416?

I can't quite tell........

- 23 appears on the Sports Illustrated that Miles is reading.

And I think that just about does it.  It looks like we have a clipshow next week followed by new episodes; the finale is set to air on May 13th.

As always, feel free to post your own ideas, theories, and feedback!!!!! Talk to you folks in two weeks!

'till next time true believers.

Crazy Ass Totally Unfounded Theory: Bram and Ilana aren't working for Ben. They're working for Richard. If RA does indeed have some connection to Egyptian culture as many have theorized, I could see RA using a riddle centered on the very-Egyptian-looking statue as their "password," per se. [And by "lies" are we talking lays/stands on the ground, or is dishonest? Egyptian riddles were pretty clever like that.] Maybe RA has been dissatisfied with Ben's leadership and is capitalizing on recent events to overthrow Ben and begin a new regime [with Locke?]. I can't come up with any concrete evidence to support this, so it may be easily proved false. Just a thought.

I REALLY like that idea. I don't think Richard has ever really liked the idea of being ordered around, especially from Ben or even Charles. He does seem to like Locke though, so maybe he's trying to do something himself.

Good idea!!

I think this is a time travel question. If someone knows the answer, then they have been on the island during a specific time and thus have knowledge that makes them part of a specific group/team.

I think that's definitely the idea; it's gotta be a password/riddle to see what side you're on and so forth.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before.
Richard Alpert's initials RA spells out the name of the Egyptian God Ra.

Yup, it's been brought up before and I think it's a good theory. It ties things back to the egyptian roots of the island and smokey, etc. etc.

Not sure this is important but the Sports Illustrated cover was from March 14, 1977. You Lost number fanatics should be able to figure out why the producers picked that particular cover besides the #23 reference.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I got the following:

3 14 1977

well, if you take 14X3, you get 42.

If you take 7+7 you get 14; 9+1 you get 10- substract them and you get 4.

Anything i'm missing?

Subject: A Late Appearance by the Pierre Chang Guy

Greetings My friend from Central New York!

Loved Your Eggs! Good for you and your girlfriend for getting so creative!

There have been a few episodes over the last few weeks that I enjoyed more than you. This week it seems to be the reverse. I thought this was a very well done character study, filling out the background story. What we got was a confirmation of what you had deduced in the premier, and it became apparent to me that you were spot on after Miles nose started bleeding. However it really did very little to propel anything until the last few minutes.

1) You are more critical of Kate then I am usually, but that was just a jaw dropping stupid move approaching Roger. The only thing maybe more stupid was Jack compounding it by telling Roger Kate is his friend! Jack has gone from being one of my favorite characters to one of my least favorite this season. The maneuver with not willing to operate on child Ben was just bush league! Notice he didn't tell Sawyer what he said to Roger. At least Kate has the Aaron excuse, Jack just once again in attempting to fix things makes them worse. Again Jack reacting rather than thinking things through as Sawyer pointed out a few weeks back.

2) First song was "It Never Rains In Southern California" by Albert Hammond a one hit wonder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KjF58a6V_s
Who ever did the Mix-tapes for the Island's Eight track tape players had very vanilla taste in music! There was some incredible Rock Soul and Pop that came out in that era. You would never know it from what they listen to on the Island LOL.

3)A re-appearance of Naomi looking far more fetching than she did on the Island. Ironically Widmore paid Miles for basically nothing as his powers were never a factor in Keamy and the gang to find Ben.

4) We also had another dysfunctional father/son relationship with the man that Miles gave the money back to. Miles telling the father that he should have told him he still loved his boy when his son was living.

5) Excellent catch on Bram being one of the new survivors! I had suspected early on that Illana was working for Ben, this just further confirms it. It also rules out the sickness had made her ask Frank that question. I am not sure if she does know that Ben is pulling the strings or if Bram does either, but Ben is their leader. They apparently are the army from Ben's side to fight the war that Widmore told Locke was going to occur.

6) One thing that you neglected to mention was the Phil/Sawyer confrontation. Sawyer this time may have not taken his own advice and this time he reacted instead of thinking things through. Phil from the first time we saw him in 1974 rubbed me the wrong way. But this now a Code Red situation. How long can Phil survive, how can Sawyer let him live?

7) I had thought Daniel was with the Hostiles, however as soon as Chang told Miles that there was a new scientist coming from Ann Arbor I knew it was him. Okay so here is the rub; most likely he got off the Island via the submarine and went to Tahiti. He may have taken the sub that came back in two weeks that Juliet was going to take. If that is the case, how could he trick the Dharma people into bringing him back? 2 possibilities, perhaps he revealed to Horace he was a scientist in 1974 and he was sent to work with the people in Ann Arbor. The other option is he had somehow got off via the hostiles. It does make sense that this is when he returns as we hear baby Miles crying in the Pierre Chang Tape!

8) Number on the Sports Illustrated is 23! Tommy Lasorda replaced Walter Alston as manager of the Dodgers after Alston had managed them for 23 years. But my Brother it gets better! The Dodgers retired Lasorda's number on 8/15/97. And of course the Dodgers are the team that Jackie Robinson broke the color line with. His number has been retired throughout Major League Baseball and hangs in every stadium in the Majors. That Number is 42!

And that does it for me this go round look forward as always to your responses! Until Next Time!

One Last thing about the ghosts that Hurley sees. One you missed was Anna Lucia when he was driving around with Sayid. But do you remember when Charlie visited Hurley at the asylum? Another patient told Hurley that guy is looking for you, and it was Charlie. Maybe when someone is insane they are more receptive to ghosts; perhaps sanity acts as a filter so that we maintain sanity? The previous message was brought you by the Redundant School for Redundancy LOL! But does that make any sense?

Okay Now For Sure I am done!!! Thanks Brother!

That could be a possibility about the insane are more receptive; however, how do you explain Jack seeing his Dad in his office for a split second in season 4? I think maybe the ghosts/island visions appear to whoever they want to appear to. Hurley wasn't noticing Charle until he was TOLD that he was being watched. Jack saw his Dad as that just added to his slippery slope of craziness in season 4. I'm thinking that the island does what it wants to who it wants. My guess though!!

thanks!! take it easy!

Subject: Re: A Late Appearance by the Pierre Chang Guy

hehhee thanks! we had a lot of fun making those eggs; plus, she got a kick out of my nerdiness like when I said, "oo, we have to put the mustafar sticker on the red egg cos they're both red!" She just laughed and rolled her eyes. lol .

1. I try to like Kate and while I do have my moments of sympathy for her, I just find it hard to like it. I think she has grown a bit as a character over these last few episodes, but I just have trouble forgetting how selfish and manipulative she can be.

I do agree that Jack saying they were friends was a bad move. If anything, it makes it looks as though Jack and Kate might be in on something together, which is only going to create problems.

I'm not sure what to make of new island Jack. I see where he's coming from though as EVERYTHING he's done has somehow led to disaster or chaos. I think he's just tired of it and is letting the island do it's own thing, for better or worse. Not operating on Ben though was pretty dickish. At least try to save the kid and if he's meant to die, he'll die and so forth.

2. Nice catch!! I'll have to give it a listen when I get back home (in my office now).

I googled the lyrics:

Got on a board a west bound seven forty seven
Didn't think before deciding what to do
All that talk of opportunities, TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true.

Seems it never rain in Southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California
But girl, don't they warn ya
It pours man it pours.
Out of work, I'm out of my head
Out of self respect I'm out of bread
I'm under loved I'm under fed
I wanna go home
It never rains in California
But girl don't they warn ya, it pours, man it pours.

Will you tell the folks back home I nearly made it
Had offers but don't know which one to take
Please don't tell them how you found me
Don't tell them how you found me give me a break
Give me a break

Seems it never rains in Southern California
Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before
It never rains in California
But girl, don't they warn ya
It pours man it pours

I can't help but notice that reference to flying in the first verse and maybe some of the references to being out of my head are refernces to the LOSTies being out of their own time?

3. That's a good point about Miles being, well, pretty much useless on the island. I don't think that was intentional though as Keamy seemed to take matters into his own hands.

4. I actually kind of liked that part with the father and his son. It was pretty brutal and actually gave some fatherly advice from a character has been shit on. It proved that Miles has some wisdom about him.

5. I'm still curious about this war that is about to happen; is it going to be Ben's people vs. Dharma? Ben's people vs. the Natives for control of the island? who?!!?!?

6. I don't think Sawyer will kill him; hell, maybe he'll just level with him and tell him the whole truth. It's obvious that Dharma or at least Chang will find out what happens to them in the future, so maybe Sawyer is just about to spill the beans?

7. I think you're right about Daniel talking to Horace; it's a good call that he probably told some Dharma folks what he can do and they let him join the crew just as they let Sawyer and Co join the D.I. as well.

8. ahahahah good catch on Jackie!! That was pretty in depth; I NEVER would have thought about that!!
