Good afternoon folks!!! Seriously, what a freakin' AWESOME episode last night! It totally made up for the two week break that we had to endure. I think I yelled "NO F****** WAY!?!!?" no less than seven or eight times. So many shocking revelations/nerd details and the preview for next week looks pretty interesting. I'm ready to get started, but as always, thanks to LOST cubit, getlostpodcast and two other sites that I can't remember but found via google images. Quality stuff as always!! Let's do this!
THINGS I NOTICED ABOUT LOST:
- First things first: the Timeline- Alright, from what I can gather and what is obvious, Sawyer, Jack, Hurley, and Co. are in 1977. We know that; but from the THIRTY YEARS EARLIER jump we got, this leads me to believe that the O6 took off in very late December or so of 2007. Some are arguing that it was early 2008 and I agree that with time being kooky, this is also a serious possibility.
- The Runway!!
Frank made a fantastic landing on a random runway that came out of the blue...however, we've seen it before! In season 3, the episode "The Glass Ballerina" shows Kate and Sawyer working on the runway.
here is an overhead shot of the runway from a deleted s 3 scene:
This is pretty awesome. And it begs the question: how did the others know to build a runway there??? Did somebody from the future tell them to do it?!!? why?!?!?
- Radzinsky!!- We finally met Radzinsky in this episode.
Who is he and why is he important? He mentioned the placement of the Swan hatch station. Now, this station was above a huge pocket of electromagnetic energy, so i'm thinking that maybe he had a hand in it or perhaps he's a scientist of some sort. I also can't help but wonder when Kelvin came along or maybe that they were in the hatch at the time of the Purge and have been waiting almost a decade for their replacements. Just an idea though.
Now, if you think back to Kelvin, Desmond's buddy in the hatch with the beard (who also knew Sayid in Desert Storm) he said that he worked with Radzinsky in the hatch.
(Kelvin)
Radzinsky was not able to stand the whole ordeal and ended up killing himself with a shotgun during one of his shifts.
Kelvin points out the blood stain to Desmundo and says, "this was Radzinsky."
In this episode, you can see him building a replica of the Swan hatch.
This is kinda funny as that is where he would later end his life (okay, it's not ha ha or knee slapping funny, but more ironic!) This is also the replica that is probably used in the Dharma video for the Swan.
He also mentioned hatch, The Looking Glass. This was the hatch that Charlie had to turn off so the boat could be contacted.
- Radzinsky is staying at the Flame hatch, the one that would be occupied by Mikhail later on and that would also be blown up by John during his season 3 "Don't Tell Me What I Can't Do" tour when he destroyed stuff and murdered people.
- Also, here's a shot of the monitors that Radzinsky was watching and that Jin is checking out too.
I can't really make anything out aside from the Muppet Show in the upper left. Anybody wanna point out what these screens are showing?
- Pierre Chang!- Jack was interviewed for his Dharma job (get to that in a second!), by none other than Dr. Pierre Chang!! We've seen Chang on SEVERAL occasions ranging from the Dharma orientation videos to the season premiere and so forth.
- And Jack's Job? Workman/Janitor!- This to me was INCREDIBLY funny as Jack, the main head honcho and one who called the shots for so long, is reduced to a janitor. This is also interesting because Ben's dad was also a Workman and this would be the job that Ben would later hold as well.
- Also, did you notice the booth at the Dharma orientation that was labeled, 'INNOCULATIONS?'
This is probably a nod to the constant "medicine" that everybody had to inject themself with (I think) every nine days. We still don't know what this medicine does or why people have to take it though.
- One of my two favorite moments of this episode was when we met baby Ethan!!
Seriously, this part was AWESOME and made me squirm with nerd glee. And I couldn't help but think about WHAT A CREEPY ASS BABY HE WOULD BE.
Seriously, I find really young kids to be REALLY damn spooky (I blame this on CHILDREN OF THE CORN, CHILD'S PLAY, and the awful Kubrick version of THE SHINING, among other films). But can you freakin' imagine a young, pint sized Ethan with that DEATH STARE?!?!!?
Adult Ethan and his Death Gaze.
Seriously, look at him as an adult and imagine him as a young kid!! and seriously, if ANYBODY can create an icon/avatar that photoshops Ethan's scary face on a baby or young kid, I would seriously love you forever. But I digress!
But yeah, this part was undeniably awesome and you could see the awkwardness on Juliet's face. Brilliant.
ALSO, this means that not only was Ethan part of Dharma, but he survived the Purge and would later on join the others. I wonder how/why they didn't kill him and brought him into the group?
- Where's Daniel?!!!?- Sawyer mentioned that Daniel had some ideas about the rules of their predicament, but he then added that Daniel was no longer there. Where is he??!?!!??! We saw at the beginning of season 5 we saw him with Dharma, so maybe he used the wheel and left the island or something? Anybody?
- "Mystery Ship"- Did you notice the song that was played when Hurley, Sawyer and Co. arrived back at the Barracks? It had the lyrics "Mystery Ship" in it. Perhaps a tongue in cheek nod to the many planes/boats that seem to crash on the island?
- One small detail I couldn't help but notice is that Hurley's sweatshirt he got from Sawyer had a picture of a dog on it. We saw Hurley wearing a shirt that said, "I (heart) my Shih-tzu."
And here we have a sweatshirt that had a bulldog on it. Could be this be a nod to Vincent in all his four legged glory? (where the hell is he anyway?!!!?!?!)
- Whispers- We heard them tonight right before Christian showed up in one of the vacant houses.
Some had speculated that this is the sound of Others time traveling and we did see Christian using Frank's flashlight. This is significant because we really haven't seen him handling anything solid that he hasn't already carried himself (we saw him with the lantern a few episodes ago, but we didn't see where he got it). Perhaps, this implies that he isn't a ghost, but time traveling from the future to help things out? I'm not sure; your thoughts?
- Christian mentioned that Sun and Frank still have a long way to travel to get back to Jin and their friends. I have a few questions. My first one: why didn't Sun go with the others to 1977??? She's one of the 06, so why wouldn't the island bring her back as well? Also, how are Frank and Sun going to get to 1977?!?!!? The Donkey Wheel could be used perhaps, I guess. Any ideas?
- Something LOST cubit pointed out was that there seems to possibly be somebody missing from the picture and from the actual event when the picture was taken. If you look at the pics and compare them, we're missing somebody.
The picture itself:
the picture being taken:
Or are they just really tiny? I don't know what the deal is here or if it's something insignificant that we're making out to be more than it is, but it's interesting, nonetheless.
- I'm still trying to figure out what book Sawyer was reading as he usually reads something that has some tie in to LOST.
- Anybody else think that this Phil guy of Dharma is going to be trouble for the group? I don't like the way he was looking at the group as he obviously suspects something. He's gonna be trouble!
- I really enjoyed the tense conversation between Sawyer and Jack. It had some great moments and it really gave us a great sense of the relationship between these two guys. Plus, it was kind of nice to see Sawyer resorting to his same ole' asshole self that we've seen of him during 99% of the series.
- And my second favorite moment of the episode was running into a young Benjamin Linus!!!
This was such a great, mind screwing moment!! And I was so happy to hear that brief tease of Ben's theme music too! Very well done!! At this point though, young Ben has already started to talk to Richard about joining the Others and since Sayid is being charged with being an Other, perhaps Ben is trying to help him out? I dunno, but this part was awesome!
I'm sure you also noticed how Sawyer slightly nodded at Sayid; as we can tell from the preview of next week, maybe he has something planned for Sayid? We'll see!
- Preview for next week: It looks like Sayid is killing/shooting somebody. I would like to think it isn't Jin as we see them wrestling/fighting, but some folks have suggested that perhaps he's killing the young Benjamin Linus.
I don't know how I feel about this theory as we've learned that the universe/island has a way of correcting itself and if Ben is important to the island, the island won't let him die. Somebody suggested that Ben isn't important YET and could be killed, but this would throw off so much stuff in the future for SO MANY people, places, and things, that it could be pretty messed up. We also see Sayid warning the Dharma folks about the future Purge and again, my comment above still makes sense to me, meaning, regardless if Sayid warns Dharma bout their demise, they're still going to die anyway. Your thoughts?
- And something I didn't notice thanks to my non-widescreen, non-HD TV is there is a woman behind Sun after Christian shows her the Dharma recruit picture. It looks like she's holding a baby or something. you can see the video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnfwbT6ul
Is that claire?!?!?! Are father and daughter hanging out in the LOST island afterlife?!?? I dunno.
- We also saw Smokey before and during this scene. Smokey was there when Frank and Sun came ashore and it let them pass on, so it obviously must not have it out for them. Something I didn't originally notice was that Smokey shows up a bit later too. Going back to the scene with Christian in the Dharma buildling, if you watch this scene over, the door kicks open by itself and a whirl of smoke comes in.
Moments later, we see the blonde woman behind Sun; it's been implied that smokey takes the form of people on the island and I believe this is more confirmation of this theory.
- Something somebody pointed out on the LOST cubit boards is that the state of the barracks looks different from when the Others lived there, as in there are still remnants of the Dharma initiative there, something that the Others probably got rid of. So, maybe this is during a different time or something??? your thoughts?
THE NUMBERS 4 8 15 16 23 42
- Sayid was running through grid 325. I can't find any way they relate to the actual numbers, but "325" is the bearing that Ben told Michael and Walt to take when they left the island at the end of the second season.
- Code 14J (hostile)- J is the 10th letter of the alphabet; I tried messing around with them, but couldn't come up with much. The best I got was taking 14-10 and that gives us 4, which is one of the numbers.
- If you look at the screen that popped up when Phil discovered Sayid, you can see the numbers
A84 (8 & 4), and the other Pylon's all feature 8 in them. I tried to mess with the other numbers in here, but came up empty.
And I have some bonus stuff:
My Aunt Sharon (who reads the LOST blog) sent me a birthday card for my birthday on 3/2 and she included this HILARIOUS comic strip called Argyle Sweater that have a LOST theme for one of the current strips:
That's hysterical!! Many thanks, Aunt Sharon!!
There was also an article on CNN.COM last month called WHERE LOST INTENDS TO GO that I keep forgetting to post, so here it is!
There are spoilers from the last months episodes and it does also mention some spoilers in regards to the current season of 24 that also happened last month, so you've been warned!
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/10/e
and totally off topic, but if anybody else is a fan of JERICHO, which CBS canned for such great shows like CANE and MOONLIGHT (hahha where are they again?), I have good news. JERICHO is returning...in the form of a comic!! http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090312/tv_n
Hey, better than nothing!
and that's all I have!!
As always, feel free to leave comments and ideas and all that fun stuff. I'm off to eat some grub and then grade my last 22 papers or so and then THE WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKEND!!!!
take care!!
'till next time true believers.
